Chinese Currency History
The Forex market is filled with famous rival currencies. The USD and British Pound are historically competitive. The British Pound and Euro are strong continental competitors. The New Zealand Dollar and Australian Dollar are often vying for control in the commodities market. And before the Euro, the German Mark and French franc competed for control and respect in the European markets. While these legendary currency competitions were fierce and memorable, they don’t come close to the current battle between the Euro and US Dollar being waged in the currencies market.
The battle was inevitable. Since its formal beginning in 2001, the Euro has made very strong and respectable moves against all of the major currencies. Many skeptics felt that investors would avoid the new currency because it lacked history and a clear vision of the strength in the Eurozone.
In short, the Euro was untested and many investors tend to avoid assets that lack a strong track record. Also, the European Central Bank was young and considered inexperienced, particularly against other well established central banks like the Bank of England and the Federal Reserve. There was a lot of fear that speculators would avoid (or short-sell) the Euro.
